Midsummer Night for Illustration Friday

This piece, entitled "Woe Is Bottom," is one I have posted before-- but I wanted to reuse it for Illustration Friday this week, as the theme is "Midsummer Night." And Bottom, shown here on the right, is a fun character in Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream."

As I have explained before with this piece, I mixed characters from "A Midsummer Night's Dream" with the fairy tale, "The Old Woman In The Wood"." The Tree-Man from that story is actually a human being. However, he has been trapped inside the tree by cruel magic. All of these things have combined to make him both tree and human-like in appearance.

The link below tells the story in more detail, for any interested parties.

Anyway, in this piece, Bottom has arrived too late-- so, as Titania first saw the Tree-Man, she fell for the wrong person. Hence, "Woe" is Bottom.

So, to conclude: click below to submit to I.F.!

Hope Beginning Summer (compared to Midsummer, since we're not there yet) is treating everyone well.
